Wrestling as a sport has come through different stages. It has changed dramatically with years. The history of professional wrestling is interesting to know so as to see how far this game has come from. The sport was viewed as a legitimate sport in 1920s.

Expert wrestling started in small unorganized groups in the 1880s. It is popular way of entertaining in Japan, Europe, Latin America, and North America. It later became an international sport in 1990s. It was made international by the expansion of World Wrestling Federation. It was viewed as financial success during the time of promotions. These promotions were made during the time of travelling carnivals.


The wrestlers were just athletes with amateur experience who completed at traveling festivals. Luxurious festivals included exhibitions, enhancing them during these colourful occasions. During this time expert the game was more of an entertainment than competition. It is interesting to see how far this sport has come from and the dramatic changes it has gone through.

Although it was not a form of competing to get rich at its early stages the winning wrestler was sponsored and booked by managers. There were also compensation and tokens of appreciations for the winning wrestler. The managers encouraged the wrestlers so as to make the sport more entertaining and interesting. Interest of money making from the wrestlers made it seem to be business and the entertaining part of it became less popular thus distinguishing itself from the amateur background.

History of wrestlers also went on to be built by the introduction of television sets in the continent. Technology makes things change thus bringing change to professional wrestling. It was used as a platform by wrestlers to familiarize themselves with the people. 1950s was the time that professional the highly entertaining sport was aired on the television. It made the game more popular for people who had never seen it or heard about it.

It can therefore, be referred to as a game between two professional wrestlers for compensation. The game looks more real on television but viewers should note that its only one way of entertaining them. Publicity of the wrestlers made many of them to be known thus making the game more popular. Professional performances were broadcast and each of the three major television stations broadcast it from 1948 to 1955. The largest supporter of this show was Dumont Television Network.

Television made the wrestlers to be known and they became popular. Television has changed the on-screen setting in many ways. This includes a conversation between the wrestlers giving them a chance to prove and convince the audience that they are the best wrestlers in the crew. They are also given a chance to challenge their opponents with strong words to make them feel afraid of fighting. Due to television innovation and the popularity of wrestlers, they also began to change.

Many more joined the wrestling groups. The new members not only joined the federation to entertain the crowd but also as a business. What was known as an entertainment game to the people was turned to be a business activity by the new members. They changed the history of professional wrestling from how entertaining it was to how one can earn from it. The sport has remained to be a business and people join it for fame and money.
